Here is a preview of a short comic about the Romanian revolution that brought an end to the communist era and Nicolae Ceaușescu’s dictatorship. The story was part of an anthology gathering 39 artists and their take on the events of December 1989 – be it first hand experience, memories, or stories they’ve heard. The book is titled Istorii din ’89 (Stories from ’89), and it was published by the Brașov County History Museum in 2019.
My work illustrates the memories of my parents, and how they perceived those dark and turbulent times. Among the chaos and the panic, there was also a lot of hope that things would get better and the future of our country will be peaceful and prosperous. 30 years later we are still struggling to build that future, and some of that hope perished along the way.
